Ska'd for Life

Strange Tenants

Strange Tenants (the Godfathers of Australian Ska) classic ska compilation 1982 to 1995

Strange Tenants have been one of the most successful live Australian bands since the early 1980s. Formed in Melbourne by brothers, Bruce and Ian Hearn, they delivered around 1200 power packed performances between 1981 and 1986 and toured with international acts including U2, Style Council and UB40. Paul Weller once described them as “Australia’s hardest working band” and musically they are unique, combining the soul of The Specials and the power of The Clash.

Renowned for their strident independence and uncompromising commitment to their music and powerful social commentary, Strange Tenants have steadfastly ignored fads, hip trends, and the music ‘industry’. The loyalty of their fans, ‘the Tenants army’, over 3 decades, has helped maintain their legendary status, almost unparalleled in the history of Australian alternative music.
